Choosing the Right Breed

The Lifestyle Match: Choosing the Right Breed for India

A dog's look lasts for a moment, but their energy and needs last for 15 years. In India, we have to be especially mindful of our rising temperatures and urban living conditions.

The Climate Check

Many popular breeds, like Huskies or Saint Bernards, struggle immensely in the Indian summer. Look for breeds with single coats or those adapted to warmer climates. If you choose a thick-coated dog, your AC bill and their comfort must be a priority.

Apartment vs. Independent House

Space is secondary and energy is primary. A Great Dane can be a better apartment dog than a Jack Russell Terrier because they are low-energy couch potatoes. If you live in a close-knit apartment complex, consider breeds known for being quieter.

The Grooming Reality

Poodles and Shih Tzus require professional grooming every 4-6 weeks. Labradors, Beagles, and Indies need little more than a weekly brush and a bath.

The golden rule: Do not choose the dog you want for the lifestyle you wish you had. Choose the dog that fits the life you live now.
